Information event on the heat gain from biomass
Focus: Heating with with wood

From October 2002, the series of lectures on the energy generation from biomass, that formerly took place at the rural engineering department Weihenstephan, takes place in the "Schulungs- und Ausstellungszentrum" in the Competence Centre for Renewable Resources from October 2002 in Straubing.

Event times:
Every Tuesday, from early October until the end of April and
every first Tuesday during the months May till September, at 9.30 h.
There is no lecture on Tuesdays between Christmas and the 6th January.

Not only the topics of climate change, the potentials of biomass and the chances of the production of energy plants (solid fuels, vegetable oil, ethanol) are discussed, but also the combustion of wood and straw.
The main focus of the event is heating with wood. Various examples of applications are given. Different forms of applications are explained by means of schematic representations, e.g. single stoves, heating stoves, wood-fired boilers, brush fuelling.
An informative booklet (folder) of 150 pages with the most important facts of the lectures, lists of manufacturers, criteria for support programmes and a calculation of profitability is sold at a price of 8 Euros (dispatch, post and packaging included: 10,68 Euros). Further specialised literature can also be bought. Offprints and concise informative material is gratuitously distributed.
After the discussion, the exhibition of firing installations in the Training and Exhibition Centre in Straubing is visited. About 90 exhibits by approximately 50 manufacturers can be seen (this exhibition of firing installations previously used to be situated in the DEULA Freising, rural engineering department Weihenstephan).
By means of brochures, objective technical data, and quotations of prices the visitor is able to get a neutral idea of the facilities for his or her specific application.
On every first Tuesday in month there is also the opportunity for talks with the manufacturers and distributors of the installations on the exhibition grounds. An appointment is only necessary for larger visitor groups.
Mr. Reisinger is responsible for the lectures and for the organisation. The advice given and the demonstrations are subsidised by the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

12. C.A.R.M.E.N.-Symposium

"Biomass and Sun -Definitive Climate Protection"

fortress Marienberg, Würzburg/Germany
05. - 06.07.04:

in co-operation with the German Solar Energy Society e.V. (DGS)

Solid biomass is a large sustainable European energy source. There is still a huge potential of usable wood residues. Besides several measures for energy saving, woodchips are one of the cheapest ways to substitute fossil fuels by renewable energy. Usually wood substitutes heating oil and natural gas. Import dependency on oil is high in most of the member countries. It is even higher in the acceding countries where import dependency is above 90 % except for Hungary. The situation is nearly as severe for natural gas. So wood energy contributes very sustainable to diminish the import dependency of energy and is one of the most efficient ways to create European added value. The largest demand for heat is in buildings. To make wood energy more efficient will strongly support the implementation of the building directive. A great part of the higher cost of wood energy derives from the larger investment for the heating plant.
A large portion of the conference focuses on the improvement of planning and operation of heating plants and therefore helps reducing those costs.
